Can you believe that there was an actual real life fairy tale princess wedding barely a mile or two away from me and I slept through the whole darn thing? And I read about it two days later on an American website?! I need to get a little more plugged in, I think!
I actually think that the first Swedish royal wedding a couple of years ago was a little more fairytaleish, because, if I’ve understood it correctly, that guy was just a regular dude who was the personal trainer of the princess and now he is going to be King of Sweden someday. That is cool. This guy is a Wall Street financier or something, so for him I feel like being royal will probably be a bonus and all, but his life was already pretty fancy. Also, I think he looks like a douche. I watched some of the coverage on catch-up TV and I swear he didn’t smile once. And anyway, what is a Swedish girl thinking marrying an American guy? Everyone knows that Swedish guys are the best! 😉
Speaking of the best, I asked my Swedish guy if people were excited about the royal wedding. He said “not really.” I said, “but it’s your princess getting married!” He said, “that’s nice for her but it has nothing to do with me.” I’m pretty sure the Brits were all excited when their prince got married last year, but maybe they are more excitable generally than Swedes. I have to say, even though I admit I wasn’t exactly paying attention to the world in general on Saturday, I didn’t pick up on any party atmosphere in our neighbourhood at least, whereas I got the impression at least that all of London was hopping for their royal wedding.
One last thing on the Royal Wedding:
Hellooo!
If I didn’t already have a pretty hot Swedish honey, I would so be camping outside the palace right now 😉 However, interesting note: on the TV coverage, Prince Swoony McSwoonypants was all designer stubble, and I remember thinking to myself that my Grandma would never have allowed my brother (if I had one) not to shave for my wedding (if I have one). Just now, when I searched for photos of the prince from the wedding, I couldn’t find any. I think a royal Swedish Grandma has had words after all!!

Several notes:
(disclaimer: royalty is my jam)
1-hands off Prince Swoony McSwoonypants – I’ve been sweet on this Charmer for at least 5 years. Also he has a serious girlfriend who is a former porn star (I kid you not) and he brought her to the wedding. You can find photos of him if you search for Queen Silvia – he was her ‘date.’
2-the regular dude who married Princess Victoria will not be king – he will be Prince Consort, I believe. A king outranks a queen, and Vics will be the ruling monarch.
3-Madeleine’s now-husband does have a serious case of Douche Face and I have not been liking him, but apparently he was tearing up from the beginning of the ceremony throughout the whole thing, and then could not stop kissing a squeezing and generally being all over his bride. He’s allowed to live now. Also, he refused a princely title and will remain a commoner (for the time being).
4-I was disappointed to read the results of a semi-recent poll (2010) that found that less that half of the Swedes approve of their monarchy (47%; almost a third disapprove). I think in the UK the approval for the institution/the Queen is 90% or so. Anecdotally, you Viking’s reaction supports that.

Consider me schooled on my new country!! 😉 Awesome, thank you.
Interesting that C-P has a girlfriend… I wonder what my Viking’s reaction would be if I suggested a little royal swinging? ;-)) (Best guess: “okay. After this football game finishes.”)
Hmm, we’ll let the new non-Prince live if he really was tearing up, but I will be keeping my eye on him!
According to my Viking, Swedes consider everyone equal whoever they are so the idea of monarchy goes kind of against that. He says he doesn’t have anything against them as such, just considers them other people who live in Stockholm, which I kind of get.

It is true to say that the Brts get more excitable than the Swedes… generally… but the whole of London was not hopping for the royal wedding of william and kate…….. I wasn’t for one! Though actually many were….. worryingly so….

Aha! On the news it looked like one big street party, but I guess London is a big city! I’m kind of disappointed and relieved I didn’t miss out on anything at the same time 😉

I was in London when Prince William and Kate gave birth. It was quite exciting! I watched a cannonball gun salute but people who were excited over this were mostly Brits from other parts of England and tourists. There were Londoners who were excited too but not to the same degree.
